Dear Parents,
Greetings! I want to welcome you and your child to our 2007-2008 Awana
Cubbies Club.
We look forward to a fun and meaningful year as the children learn about Jesus and celebrate His love.
Cubbies is for potty-trained children, three to five years of age, not yet in kindergarten. Weekly club meetings are held on Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Regular attendance and punctuality are encouraged. Please contact the Cubbies Director if your child will be absent from club meetings.
Each week, parents should read and discuss the assigned Bear Hug section of the Cubbies Handbook with their child. Each section includes a short story, a lesson, and a Bible verse to memorize. At the end of each Bear Hug is a section labeled, "Under the Apple Tree." This section is optional, if your child needs additional work or activities during the week. Please note there are "Special Day" sections in the back of the Cubbies Handbook to be completed during special holidays, like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc.
Repetition and positive reinforcement are critical to your child learning his or her verses. Please sign each Bear Hug section your child completes at home before each club meeting. This helps the leaders to know what verse(s) to cover with your child and what section(s) he or she has completed.
Your child will earn patches for his or her Cubbies vest when memorizing and reciting Bible verses and completing activities from the Cubbies Handbook. "Shares" (points redeemed for prizes) are also earned for the following: attendance, punctuality, wearing the Cubbies vest, bringing the Cubbies Handbook, bringing a Bible, bringing a visitor, participating in special "dress up" days, and attending Sunday school. If your child attends Sunday school somewhere other than Sharon Baptist, please keep us informed of his or her attendance, so your child gets credit for that.
The shares your child earns may be redeemed at specific times during the year for prizes/toys. At the end of the Awana year, an Awards Ceremony will be held to recognize the achievements of all the children in Awana club.
Leadership for Cubbies includes a director, an adult leader, and student leaders. I, Stephanie Steger, am the Cubbies Director and mother of three young children. Our family calls Sharon Baptist our church home, and this will be our son's second year in Cubbies. Feel free to talk to me before or after club meetings and anytime at (913) 397-7879, should you have any questions or concerns.
I am very excited to work with your child. Let's have a fun-filled, positive year as we study God's word together!
Stephanie Steger
