My name is Melissa Murphy and I am the Awana Commander here at Sharon Baptist Church. My husband Scott is the Youth and Worship Pastor at Sharon and also serves as our Awana Pastor on club nights. We live on a small farm in Eudora, KS just west of Olathe where we are busy raising our 3 children, Taylor, Caleb, and Praise. Taylor is in the 10th grade, participates in the Journey 24/7 club, and is a Student Leader in the Sparks room. Caleb is in the 6th grade and Praise is in the 4th. Both participate in the T&T club.

I have worked with the Awana program for 8 years and have served in several rolls including Guards Director, Co-Commander, and Commander. I also manage our household, partner with Scott in much of his work, and teach our 3 children in our home.
Prior to being a homeschool mom and home manager I taught in the public schools for 6 years as a long term substitute, 2nd grade classroom teacher, and reading resource teacher.

It is my firm conviction that the Bible calls us as parents to be the primary teachers and disciplers of our children especially in the area of spiritual matters. It is my desire as Commander to encourage you as parents to take this roll seriously; to embrace it and begin teaching your children daily how to walk with Christ. Our purpose in Awana is NOT to do this job for you, it is to equip you with Biblical resources, and tools, support, and encouragement as YOU begin this spiritual journey with your child.
