| Dear Parents,
I would like to take just a minute of your time to introduce myself.
My name is Sam Peluso. I retired from the Kansas Air National Guard
in 2003 after 33 years of military service and retired from Raytheon
Aircraft in Wichita in 2005 after 30 years as an Engineer. My wife
and I moved to Olathe about 3 years ago and have attended Sharon
Baptist Church for about a year. Beginning this year I will be the
Truth and Training Director for our Awana Clubs at Sharon Baptist
Church.
I am looking forward to spending time with your children and sharing
with them in this year’s activities. We have a number of fun
things planned for the children to participate in. More importantly,
I am excited about the opportunity to watch your children grow more
knowledgeable about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. My goal is
to insure that your children learn about God’s love for each
one of them and how He wants to richly bless them not only as children
but throughout their entire lives. This can only be accomplished
through Bible study and prayer. To assist them in learning about
Jesus we will be issuing handbooks to each child to help them in
their study. As a result, this will require dedicated reading in
their handbooks and Bible verse memorization. I would like to encourage
each parent to support their children by insuring they read their
handbooks and memorize the weekly bible verses. Your child will
earn a badge and progress seals to display on this badge when memorizing
and reciting bible verses and by completing activities for the handbook.
This badge will be displayed on the Awana bulletin boards in the
Game room. Please be sure to periodically check these boards out
with your child. They should be very proud of their progress and
will be excited to show off their rewards. Additional “points”
or shares as we call them can be earned for the following: attendance,
wearing their vest, bringing their handbook, and Bible, and by attending
Sunday school. These shares can be used to purchase cool items from
the Awana catalog! If your child is attending Sunday school somewhere
other than Sharon Baptist, please keep us informed of his or her
attendance, so that they can receive credit for doing so.
Should you need to talk we me about anything relating to the program
or any special needs your child may have please feel free to call
me at my home phone --- 393-1301.
I am truly looking forward to an exciting time with your child and
the opportunity to teach them about a Savior who truly loves and
is personally concerned about them.
Thank you,
Sam Peluso
Truth and Training Director
